Evening in Eden

In the garden I steal the warmth of the rays
The sunlight enveloping me in its yellow gaze.
My skin tingles from the illuminating flare
as I close my eyes and
surrender to its radiant glare.
In the garden I hear the creatures’ greeting:
the chirps, the rustles, the croaks,
their whispers fill the heavenly air.
I envy the delicate petals that have
opened wide to the beaming sky,
so vibrantly portraying nature’s guise.
I walk through the land,
toes and hands learning
what it is to be nature and man.
My shadow follows me closely,
waiting to mimic my misstep,
denying me a chance to forget.
In the garden I call myself Eve.
Made from the rib: beautiful, sinful, redeemed.
