Writing as a remedy

What I like about writing is that
There are no boundaries,
No prescriptions that must be filled.
What I like about the semantic expression
Of self is that your thoughts, mindset,
Being is kept safely within the punctuation.
What I like about the safety of letters and words
Is that they are mine. Mine to create,
Mine to share, and mine to remember.
What I hold close to my heart are the expressions
Of self that have morphed, transformed, bloomed
Within the pages that hold my vulnerable thoughts.
The 16-year-old girl with the tear-filled notebook
Remains within those lines.
She is never removed from the memories that
Contextualized that being.
The 21-year-old girl who writes on an
Emotionless computer seeps emotions
Through each keyboard tap.
But she is never bound by the words of yesterday.
What I like about writing is that there is no one
Between me and the words.
It is me, my mind, and the movement of my hands.
No one is to interrupt and ask “but...what...why…?”.
What I like about writing are the inscribed thoughts that
Speak to who I was, who I wanted to be, and who
I have become with each passing of a punctuation
Mark.

Without Boundaries, MME
